Caistor is a market town located on the north western edge
of the Lincolnshire Wolds.

This Georgian - Victorian market town can be found
approximately twenty-three miles to the north-east of Lincoln
and eleven miles to the south-west of Grimsby,
Brigg is to the north-west of the town.

To visit by road, from Grimsby take the A46,
from Immingham take the A1173,
and from Lincoln take the A1084 south.

The parish church is St. Peter and St. Paul, which dates back to pre Norman times.

This very attractive Georgian market town has a long history dating back to pre Roman times, proof of this has been confirmed with numerous significant archaeological finds in the area.

One of this towns most impressive features is its architecture, it has fifty-six Grade II listed buildings and two Scheduled Ancient Monuments.

Most of the original town of Caistor was burnt down in 1681, as such most of the buildings seen today in the town centre date from that time onwards.
The Sessions House built in 1662 was one of a few buildings to survive the fire of 1681.

Caistor Grammar School was founded in 1631.

Some of the largest sheep fairs in England were once held in the town,
tens-of-thousands of sheep would change hands at one of these events.

In 1793 an Act of Parliament authorised the construction of the Caistor Canal. The canal ran from the New River Ancholme near Creampoke in Kelsey Carrs in an easterly direction to Moortown, which made it in total four miles long with six locks.
Sadly the canal was never to reach Caistor.

The Canal opened circa 1800, and was in use up until circa 1855-1860,
the year 1936 was though to see the canal officially abandoned.
