Brigg is a small market town in North Lincolnshire.

Which can be found approximately sixteen miles to the south-west of Hull
and twenty-four miles to the north of Lincoln.

The local church is St. John's.

To visit by road
The M180 motorway and the A18 both pass through the parish.
The A1084 passes through the town on its way south-east to Caistor.

Brigg ( full name Glanford Brigg ) - from the old Norse "briggja"
which means - meaning - "a jetty".

A small market town on the River Ancholme
with a history dating back to the twelth century.

A thriving market town which for centuries has served the rural villages on both sides of the River Ancholme.

Road communications have always been good especially with the old Roman road Ermine Street close by.

Home to many old coaching inns, the most famous being "The Angel",
which in times past was very popular with travellers travelling from
Lincoln via Caenby Corner to the Humber.
The Angel is now home to Brigg Town Council.

The River Ancholme also gave easy access to the River Humber and the nearby port of Kingston upon Hull.

A Grammer school was founded in 1669 by Sir John Nelthorpe, after whom the school, made a comprehensive in 1976, is named.

With the coming of the railways the town was to see rapid growth and expansion, the town would have seen more growth had Brigg been selected as a junction for
North-South lines with the East-West link to Grimsby.
But this plan was to see strong local opposition from the very influential Carey family,
as such it was decided instead to push most of the rail traffic through the nearby village of Barnetby-le-Wold.

Since the building of the M180 bypass and the pedestrianisation of the town centre, the town has regained the relaxed qualities and charm of a country market town, with a small marketplace at its heart.

A traditional street-market is still held on Thursdays and Saturdays.

A Farmers market is held on the 4th Saturday of each month, selling a wide variety of local produce.

Brigg Town Football Club ( the Zebras ) - was formed in 1864 and is one of the oldest clubs in the world.

The M180 bypassed the town in 1977.
The A15 Brigg & Redbourne Bypass ( extension to the M180 from Hibaldstow) was opened in December 1989.

Brigg railway station is on a branch of the Sheffield to Lincoln Line (Grimsby Branch).
Services from this station are very limited,
Saturdays only - between Sheffield and Cleethorpes.
