" I am interested in the works of Ernest Hemingway, can you please help ".
I hope the following information is of some help to you.
Ernest Hemingway ( 1899 - 1961 ).
American novelist and short-story writer.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois on the 21st July 1899.
After his public school education, Ernest began work as a reporter on The Kansas City Star.
He then went on to Volunteer as an ambulance driver in the First World War, seeing action in Italy.
He was wounded in 1918 on the Austro-Italian front.
After a quick recovery and a brief visit home,
he went on to become the Toronto Star's foreign corespondent based in Paris.
Here he was to meet and mix with other
expatriate artists and fellow writers, such as F.Scott Fitzgerald and Ford Madox,
with their support and
encouragement he wrote and published in Paris, Three Stories and Ten Poems (1923).
He then went onto
publish his first collection of stories in the USA, In our Time (1925)
which was an instant success, attracting critical acclaim.
He had developed his own unique style of writing and went on to have his
first satirical work published, The Torrents of Spring (1926).
His first novel The Sun also Rises (1926), published in the UK as Fiesta (1927) is possibly the most elusive to collectors,
very few UK first edition copies of Fiesta in dust wrapper are known to exist.
His other works include
A Farewell to Arms (1929), Men Without Women (1927), Winner Take Nothing (1933),
Green Hills of Africa (1935), To Have and Have Not (1937), Death in the Afternoon (1932), The Fifth Column (1935),
For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940) this was his largest novel, Across the River and into the Trees (1950),
The Old Man and the Sea (1952).
He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the Nobel Prize in 1954.
The last years of his life were to produce no major work, his physical and mental health deteriorated until
he took his own life.
Since his death several posthumous works have been published, such as
A Moveable Feast (1964), Islands in the Stream (1970), The Garden of Eden (1987),
The Dangerous Summer (1985), Eighty-Eight Poems (1979).
Recommended reading - Ernest Hemingway, A Life Story, by Carlos Baker,
published in 1969.
