We are Urgently Seeking to Buy Books in Bracebridge Heath and the County of Lincolnshire.
Please quote or offer anything you feel may be of interest to us,
Bracebridge Heath village sits on top of the
Lincoln
Cliff which overlooks the City of
Lincoln
and the valley of the River Witham.
Along this cliff top runs the Viking Way - The 235 km (145 miles) long footpath which runs
from the Humber Bridge to Oakham in Rutland.
Bracebridge Heath lies along the route of the Roman road 'Ermine Street'
which was part of the Roman link between
London (Londinium) and
Lincoln (Lindum).
Of the 16,000 km (10,000 miles) of Roman roads known and recorded in Britain, Ermine Street
is one of the best known and runs approximately 320 km (200 miles) from London to York.
The 'Asylum' (St John's Mental Hospital) was closed down in 1990
and sold a few years later to a property developer who has since built nearly 1,000 new houses in the village.
The original hospital buildings are protected from demolition as they are classified
as Grade III listed buildings.
During the redevelopment of the old hospital site a number of these protected buildings
have been refurbished and converted into flats and offices.
There are three public houses in the village.
The Blacksmiths Arms which can be found at the point
where London Road forks into
Sleaford Road (A15)
and
Grantham
Road (A607).
Opposite on the western side of
Grantham
Road (A607) is the John Bull public house
The Homestead built in the late 1990s
can be found on the nearby former hospital site.
The village has expanded over the years
and today there is speculation of even more new housing.
The village is also home to the headquarters of the regional health authority.
