The Blankney estate had been since the Norman Conquest the property of the Deincourts.
But In the fifteenth century the entire estate was passed through
the marriage of an heiress to the Lovels of Titchmarsh.
All the estates of the Lovels were confiscated by Henry VII, after the battle of Stoke Field (16th June 1487).
Blankney estate was then sold to the Thorolds.
During the reign of Charles I, through a marriage with the Thorold heiress, the entire estate
was passed on to Sir William Widdrington, who in 1643 was made Baron Widdrington of Blankney.
But all was to end in 1715 when Lord Widdrington's great grandson made the fatal mistake of taking
part in the 1715 rebellion.
He was captured and taken prisoner at Preston, later convicted of high treason
and in 1716 his lands and all assets were confiscated.
In 1719 Thomas Chaplin a member of the very wealthy Chaplin family,
who had been landowners in Lincolnshire since 1658, was fortunate enough to buy Blankney estate
from the Commissioners of Confiscated Property.
Thomas Chaplin died in 1747, the estate then passed on to his son John Chaplin,
the Chaplin's were to keep the estate in the family until 1897.
When due to mounting debts and other problems Henry Chaplin born in 1841 at Ryhall Hall near Stamford,
had no alternative but to finally sell the estate to Lord Londesborough.
Blankney Hall was badly damaged in 1945 by fire, leaving only an empty shell which was demolished in the 1960s.
