pass through Horbling the next village on the B1177 is Billingborough.
The local Church is St. Andrew's.
It was here in Billingborough that the Saxon tribe of the Billings made their camp on the dry rich lands.
The Roman built Car Dyke is close by and further evidence of Roman occupation has also been found locally
along with nine salterns, which means the parish would have been an important place in one of
Lincolnshire's earliest known industries, salt making.

In the heart of the village the natural artesian springs have been put to good use providing a water feature
known as Spring Wells, these artesian springs were possibly what attracted the first settlers here
as this water was reputed to be chalybeate,or rich with iron salts,
which many would claim to have healing qualities and aid good health.
These springs have run dry only once in recent years, records show that
on the Chalybeate is a word meaning "containing iron".
A Saltern was a type of clay hut used for early salt production.
The hut had a hole in the roof, which would allow smoke to escape.
Large fires were lit beneath clay troughs of brine, the heat from the fire would evaporate the water leaving only salt crystals.
Sea water would not have been used in these salterns.
In English archaeology - a saltern is a term used to describe an area used for salt making,
especially in the East Anglian fenlands - fenland - fen - fens.
