Billingborough is a large village in Lincolnshire.

Which can be found on the edge of the Fens
approximately nine miles north-north-east of Bourne.

To visit by road take the A52 between Grantham and Boston, turn south onto the B1177 pass through Horbling the next village on the B1177 is Billingborough.

The local Church is St. Andrew's.

It was here in Billingborough that the Saxon tribe of the Billings made their camp on the dry rich lands.
Hence the name - Billingborough - from the Saxon name - Billings.

The Roman built Car Dyke is close by and further evidence of Roman occupation has also been found locally along with nine salterns, which means the parish would have been an important place in one of Lincolnshire's earliest known industries, salt making.

Archaeological research found the village was also once the site of an
Iron Age settlement.

In the heart of the village the natural artesian springs have been put to good use providing a water feature known as Spring Wells, these artesian springs were possibly what attracted the first settlers here as this water was reputed to be chalybeate,or rich with iron salts, which many would claim to have healing qualities and aid good health.

These springs have run dry only once in recent years, records show that on the
1st January 1967 they did run dry for six weeks.

Chalybeate is a word meaning "containing iron".
Chalybeate waters are also known as ferruginous waters.

A Saltern was a type of clay hut used for early salt production. The hut had a hole in the roof, which would allow smoke to escape. Large fires were lit beneath clay troughs of brine, the heat from the fire would evaporate the water leaving only salt crystals.

Sea water would not have been used in these salterns.
Brine was used, produced by passing fresh water over salt-rich sand collected from beneath the sea and packed into clay troughs.

In English archaeology - a saltern is a term used to describe an area used for salt making, especially in the East Anglian fenlands - fenland - fen - fens.
