Aubourn is a small and ancient village in the county of Lincolnshire.
Which can be found just east of the A46 between Lincoln and Newark.

Famous for being the smallest village in the county and also for having the smallest one way system in the UK within the village, which was originally designed to keep lorries out.

The village itself sits in the valley formed by the river Witham
as it makes its way east-wards to the Wash, as such over the years it has been a prime candidate for flooding. Before the second world war this whole area was allowed to flood during the winter months if the river levels got too high.

After the War eight foot high flood banks were built which while reducing the annual risk of flooding would make a flood should it so happen likely to be more catastrophic. There are now a large number of houses built right up to these flood banks.

At the eastern end of the village can be found Aubourn Hall, a beautiful 16th-century house set in approximately three acres of gardens, originally designed by the architect James Smythson and built for Sir John Meres between 1587 and 1628.

The interior of this magnificent three storey brick and stone buiding features a beautifully carved staircase and numerous attractively wood panelled rooms. The property has been the home of the Nevile family from the 17th century.

The local parish church is dedicated to St.Peter.
