Ancaster is a small village in Lincolnshire.

Which can be found approximately seven miles to the north-east
of Grantham and six miles to the west of Sleaford.

Local history shows that the Romans settled here. A settlement and marching camp was built, the remains of these fourth century Roman earthworks can still be seen today. Rare artefacts from this site are permanently on display in Grantham Museum.

One thing left by the Romans was there road network, of which many of the modern straight roads used today, still follow the line of an original Roman road.

One such road is Ermine Street, the (B6403) near Ancaster, part of a road which originally ran from London to Lincoln and York.

During the medieval period Ancaster provided the building material for numerous Lincolnshire churches, with its locally quarried stone (a mid-Jurassic oolitic limestone), some of which was used in the building of Lincoln Cathedral.
