Alford is a small ancient market town in Lincolnshire.

King Edward I granted Alford its market charter in 1283 the market is still held every Tuesday and Friday.

As well as the market numerous shops can be found in the central market place and surrounding streets.

The marble drinking fountain at the north end of the market place was erected in honour of Queen Victoria in 1901.

The history of this town can clearly be seen in its buidings and architecture of which the Georgians and Victorians left some fine examples, such as The Corn Exchange built in 1856, and still in use today as the Town Hall.

The oldest building known in Alford is the mid 13th century St. Wilfrids Church.

One of Alford's main attractions has to be the spectacular five sailed working Windmill, which was originaly built in 1813.
