Aby is a small rural village in Lincolnshire. Which can be found to the south of Louth.
In recent years its nearby towns and villages
have become very popular with tourists,
as such there are numerous cottages, flats and apartments to rent
in the area during the holiday season.
An ideal location for those of you who are keen on walking, angling
and re-discovering the odd long lost Lincolnshire pub.
Information About the Life and Work of
( Brodie Cowan Watson ) Helen Bannerman:
Helen Bannerman 1862 - 1946.
Writer and Illustrator of Children's literature.
Born in Edinburgh and educated at the University of St. Andrews.
She lived in India from 1889 and was the wife of an army doctor.
Her first published book,
The Story of Little Black Sambo (1890),
published in small format (pocket size), illustrated with her own illustrations.
This small format book was an instant success with the general public.
Little Black Sambo himself, dressed in his brightly coloured red
coat, with blue trousers, purple shoes and holding a green umbrella,
instantly cut a dashing figure in the world of children's books.
The four tigers who so very nearly ate him are shown
as both menacing and finally ridiculous as they reduce themselves to butter
by chasing each other numerous times around the trunk of a large tree.
Several other stories were to follow the success of this first published work.
The books which followed include
Little Black Mingo (1902),
Little Black Quibba (1902)
Little Black Quasha (1908).
